Welcome to my website, HoaglandTherapy.com. My name is Sarah Hoagland and I have a therapy practice in Northwest Portland. I have an eclectic approach to therapy, which means I have been trained in a variety of orientations and will work with you collaboratively to find the therapeutic approach that best meets your needs.
I believe we all have the seeds for growth and change in us if we can learn to tap into our creative resources. Therapy can help develop this capacity, while helping to release old hurts and wounds that keep us stuck.
I have a holistic approach and look at how issues in mind and body influence each other in your overall health and well-being. When one part of us is ailing, often other aspects suffer too, and the goal of well-being often means tending to the whole self — mind, body, psyche and soul. Therapy is a place to do that, and we often start by listening closely to your heart’s desire, or that which is aching or longing in you for change.
Therapy also involves bringing to awareness the attitudes, beliefs and conditioned responses that are no longer serving you in order to make new choices in life. While this may feel risky at times, it can also be energizing and freeing.
Having an open and “playful” attitude about your issues and being willing to consider and try out new behaviors is an important aspect of therapy for both individuals and couples.
